Professor Tian Jian Carried out in-depth Discussion on the Application of Nano Calcium Carbonate inArtificial Bone Biomimetic Materialswith the Affiliated Hospital of Youjiang Medical College and the First People’s Hospital of Yulin City
On 23 February and 1 March, 2019, Professor Tian Jian of Hubei University was invited by Tang Yujin, President of the Affiliated Hospital of Youjiang Medical College, and Luo Yijun, Vice President of the First People’s Hospital of Yulin City, to carry out in-depth discussion on the application of nano calcium carbonate artificial bones, teeth and other medical biomimetic materials. The participants were Professor Tian Jian of Hubei University and his team, President of Affiliated Hospital of Youjiang Medical College, Director of Spinal Orthopaedics Surgery, Tang Yujin, Vice President, Pan Zheng, Deputy Chief Physician of Spinal Osteopathy Surgery, Xie Kegong and Liu Jia. Professor Tian Jian introduced the biological properties of calcium carbonate used in medical biomimetic materials. Nano calcium carbonate can be used in medical fields such as drug delivery carriers, biomaterials, tumor adjuvant therapy and so on. Through the study of biomineralization and calcium carbonate preparation technology,calcium carbonate with different particle size, crystal structure and good biocompatibility can be produced. It is suitable for biological reconstruction in vivo or in vitro, and can replace the bone with hydroxyapatite structure. However, there are still some problems in the application of nano calcium carbonate in biomaterials, such as the study of the cytotoxicity of nano-particles to biomaterials, the relationship between particle size and bone growth, and the biocompatibility of nano calcium carbonate bone materials. Therefore, it is very important to promote the cross-fusion of materials science and biomedicine. Through the study of mutual penetration between disciplines, it would lead the construction of new disciplines and the development of new industries, and realize the rapid progress of medical and health technology in China.

President Tang Yujin believes that the construction of nano calcium carbonate bone biological model is feasible, and is willing to cooperate with Prof. Tian in the medical research of nano calcium carbonate in medicine and biological bone materials, such as the study of individual calcium supplements, cytotoxicity test of nano particles, accumulation mechanism test of different calcium carbonate particles, and animal muscle injection test. To carry out to deepen reaction of decomposition, absorption and precipitation at the interface of bone joint, so as to realize the solid combination of bone.

Vice President Luo Yijun highly agreed with the construction of interdisciplinary fusion. China is a large population country with a large number of patients with bone diseases of the spine, and there are great individual differences. Therefore, the clinical practice is rich in experience, but the level of basic theory is lower than that in foreign countries. The cooperation and exchange among biology, medicine, materials and other disciplines can accelerate the development of basic medical theory in China. Nano calcium carbonate can be used as a medium to synthesize hydroxyapatite bone structure. It is believed that nano calcium carbonate will have better biocompatibility than titanium alloy and would have a very broad prospect of development and application because it can be implanted into human body to realize bone reconstruction.
